About Lorne Fromer, Commercial Photography
Lorne Fromer is a Toronto-based Toronto photographer specializing in corporate and industrial photography including executive portraiture, editorial and medical photography. His work has been reproduced in some of Canada's most prestigious annual reports, company brochures, newsletters, press kits and web sites.
Over the past 15 years Lorne has perfected the exacting and delicate art of
business portraiture. "All of my executive portraits are shot on location.
I have developed a portable photographic studio that produces the same
quality of photographs as a conventional studio, without the inconvenience
and cost of executive travel." This studio can be installed in a company
boardroom in 30 minutes.
Lorne Fromer's industrial photography combines a thorough technical grounding in plant lighting with a natural ability to set people at ease. Whether photographing the president or an assembly worker, Fromer is able to create an environment of co-operation and trust. "I am amazed at how often difficult subjects say to me at the end of a shoot, "Lorne, that was really fun".
Lorne Fromer first became involved in commercial photography in the mid-1970's. He has exhibited widely and edited several key professional photography journals. Having received several Canada Council and Ontario Arts Council grants he went on to receive a MFA in 1985. He now subsidizes his creative work with the proceeds of his commercial endeavors. He strongly believes in the crossover, both economically and creatively. "I could never keep up with the pace and keep my commercial work fresh, without the input of my creative work" His work is represented in the permanent collections of The Royal Ontario Museum and the National Film Board of Canada and in numerous private collections.
All of Fromer's work exemplifies this crossover. Whether fulfilling an assignment on obesity, or on changes in the printing industry, Fromer utilizes his creative forces to get the most out of every situation.
